The study represents the old notion that menopause starts ovariesSome unpleasant symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and night sweats, long regarded as coming from the ovary.
But new research challenges this assumption and suggests that the symptoms of menopause, at least in part, may begin in the brain.
This is because the hypothalamus, pituitary and stop responding to normal estrogen in some women, suggesting that they will develop a decreased sensitivity to estrogen, researchers at New Jersey Medical School report for December 22 / 29 Journal American Medical Association.
"This is an important new concept: Menopause is not just the ovaries, but also in the brain," said Laura Goldsmith, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and women's health, Faculty of Medicine of New Jersey, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
These results could also be a form of research that will ultimately help doctors predict the nature of the transition to menopause may be a woman, and to help non-estrogen drugs can help reduce symptoms that women experience in conducting this phase of the planning guide, said Dr. Gerson Weiss, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology, women's health, Faculty of Medicine of New Jersey.
Menopause refers to the time when menstruation stops. A woman is considered menopausal until they have had a period of 12 consecutive months after the North American Menopause Society. The time before menopause, often full of symptoms caused by hormonal fluctuations during perimenopause. During perimenopause, common symptoms are hot flashes, fatigue, vaginal dryness, mood swings, and irregular menstruation.
The study was blowing in the Research Center for the Study of Women's Health across the country (Swan), the National Institute of Health funded a study of women's health as they approached menopause.
The swan over 3300 women aged between 42 and 52 at the original price. A group of women among the 840 urine samples were analyzed levels of the hormone daily. The samples were collected during a complete cycle or 50 days, whichever comes first day.
The group, the researchers found that 160 is not ovulating. After further analysis, hormone levels in women were ovulating, the researchers found that women are three different groups.
The first group had high levels of estrogen, and when appropriate for luteinizing hormone (LH), which resulted in ovulation, but it will grow. According to Weiss, this lack of response indicates a problem of the ovary.
The second group, estrogen levels, a high point, but there was a correlation between increased levels of LH, which Weiss said that the pituitary and hypothalamus in response to estrogen levels begin.
The third group had similar oestrogeengehalte in the early rounds, but the increase in estrogen later as the first and second group. The increase in LH, but were higher for most of the cycle than other groups.
According to Weiss "clear evidence that the brain's response to hormones," which highlighted the second and third groups of different kinds of decreased sensitivity to estrogen in the brain.
Women in the third set was also prone to report symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats.
